The Samsung UE46B8000 looks very similar to the UE40B7000.
The difference is that the UE46B8000 boasts 200Hz motion processing. This works very well, although some of the settings don’t work too well – choose the clear setting and it looks great.
The blacks on LCD TV screens are often a weakness. They are a particular strength of the UE46B8000 as it uses innovative LED backlighting technology – not the usual fluorescent backlights. These can brighten or turn off virtually instantly, creating deep, deep blacks, as well as clean whites. Colours are natural and well balanced.
Sound is a weakness. It’s often poor on flatscreen TVs as there is so little room to incorporate decent speakers. It is not surprising that the UE46B8000 is no exception, given it being so slim. So, unless you’re prepared to accept that, add in a surround sound system – desirable anyway to complement the stunning pictures.
